Frank, 91
Frank, aged 91, is a Stay Active client who lives at home with Margaret, his wife, in Balmain East. He has been active throughout his life, swimming in the local harbour pool, sailing and playing sports. Frank’s activity had declined since a diagnosis of dementia a couple of years ago. Frank’s family engaged Stay Active to ensure he remains physically strong, mobile and as independent as possible.
Tom, one of Stay Active’s Accredited Exercise Physiologists, has visited Frank in his home for exercise sessions multiple times a week since August 2024, professionally progressing him through strength, mobility, aerobic, and balance exercises. This intervention has led to significant improvements in his functional ability.

With guidance from Tom, Frank’s 30 second ‘sit to stand’ score has improved 23%, and he now sits in the 90th percentile for men his age! His ‘timed up and go’ mobility score has improved 33%, his 6 minute walk distance has improved 21%, and his hand grip strength by 6%. Frank has also slightly improved his single leg balance ability. These results display an amazing improvement in strength, mobility and a reduction in falls risk. Frank’s hard work with Stay Active is helping him to continue to live an active and independent life.
